Romania Increases its
Role in Refugee Resettlement

Timişoara, 10 March - The Romanian city of Timişoara recently hosted the first meeting in 2010 of the inter-governmental Working Group on Resettlement (WGR), which usually convenes in Geneva. The fact that the world's first centre for the emergency evacuation of refugees from life-threatening circumstances is situated at the outskirts of the town contributed to the decision of the WGR Swedish Chair to convene the meeting here. The Chair's theme, "increased commitment and capability for resettlement", was reiterated throughout all the side meetings held in connection to the session of WGR.
